രോഹിത്  വെമുലയെ  അറിയാൻ  രാധിക  വെമുലയെ  പഠിക്കണം!, ഒരു  പഠപുസ്തകം  ആയി  തന്നേ  , സ്ത്രീകൾ  ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള  പാർശ്വവൽകൃത    സമൂഹത്തിനു  രാധിക   ഒരു  പാഠപുസ്തകമാണ് അതിലെ  അക്ഷരത്തെറ്റുകളും  വ്യാകരണപിശകുകളും,  മൂലവും, പ്രയോഗവും എല്ലാം ! രോഹിതിന്റെ  യാത്രാമൊഴി  വായിച്ചിട്ട്  ഒരുതുള്ളി  കണ്ണുനീർ  വീഴ്ത്തിയവർ  മാത്രം  ദയവായി  തുടർന്നു  വായിച്ചാൽ  മതിയാകും ! ( മറിച്ചായാലും  പരിഭവമില്ല!.  വെറുതേ ‘ഇഷ്ടം’ ക്ലിക്ക്  ചെയ്യരുത്  വിമർശിക്കണം!  എന്നെ  ഉദ്ദേശിച്ചുള്ളൂ ! അതിനുശേഷം  ഞാൻ  ആഗലേയത്തിലും  ഹിന്ദിയിലുമായി -തെറ്റുവന്നെങ്കിൽ  തിരുത്തിത്തന്നെ    ബ്ലോഗി ൽ  എഴുതാം! ).

വെമുലയുമായി  ദിനു  കെ  നടത്തിയ  അഭിമുഖം  പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട് !  രാധിക  വെമുല :

 “സമൂഹത്തിൽ നിന്ന്  എന്നതിനേക്കാൾ എനിക്ക് വീടിനകത്തുനിന്നാണ് ജാതീയമായ  വേർ തിരിവുകൾ അനുഭവിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നത്  എന്റെ  വളർത്തമ്മയായ അഞ്ജനി ദേവി ,പെൺകുട്ടികൾ  ഇല്ലാതിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടാണ് എന്നേ  ദത്തെടുത്തത് !അവർ  ഗുണ്ടൂർ ഹൈസ്ക്കൂളിലെ  പ്രധാന  അദ്ധ്യാപികയായിരുന്നു !ഒബിസി  വിഭാഗത്തിലെ  വഡേര സമുദായത്തിൽ പെട്ട സമ്പന്ന കുടുംബമായിരുന്നു  അവരുടേത്  എനിക്ക്  പന്ത്രണ്ടു വയസ്സുള്ളപ്പോഴാണ് ഞാൻ അവരുടെ മകളല്ല എന്ന് എന്നോടുപറയുന്നത് !എന്റെശരിക്കുള്ള അച്ഛനുമമ്മയും റെയിവെയിൽ തൂപ്പുജോലിക്കാരായിരുന്നെന്നും  ‘മാല’ സമുദായത്തിൽ  (SC)പെട്ടവരായിരുന്നു എന്നും  ഞാൻ അപ്പോഴാണ്  അറിയുന്നത്  അഞ്ജനി ദേവി യുടെ അമ്മയ്ക്ക്  ഞാൻ ദത്തുപുത്രിയാണ് എന്ന്  അറിയാമായിരുന്നു എങ്കിലും  പട്ടികജാതിക്കാരി യാണ് അറിയില്ലായിരുന്നു .അവരെന്നെ ഒരുപാടു ഉപദ്രവിച്ചു ! അതിനുശേഷം  ഞാനാവീട്ടിലെ  കേവലം വേലക്കാരിയായി” . 

പതിന്നാലാം  വയസ്സിൽ  ആയിരുന്നു  തന്റെ  വിവാഹമെന്നും ,പത്താം ക്ലാസ്  കഴിഞ്ഞു  വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം  തുടരാൻ  അനുവദിച്ചില്ല , എന്നും അഞ്ജനാ ദേവിക്ക്  പിന്നീട്  പെൺകുട്ടികൾ  ഉണ്ടായതും , അവർക്കൊക്കെ  നല്ല  വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം  ലഭിച്ചതും  രോഹിതിന്റെ  അമ്മ   നമ്മുടെ  അമ്മ! വിവരിക്കുന്നു !. 1985 ൽ  ആയിരുന്നു  മണികുമാറുമായി  രാധികയുടെ  വിവാഹം !, അഞ്ചുവർഷത്തിനുള്ളിൽ , നീലിമ ,രോഹിത് ,രാജാ  എന്നു പേരിട്ട  മൂന്നു കുട്ടികൾ  അവർക്കുണ്ടായി , “മണികുമാർ കരുതിയത്, അഥവാ ധരിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടത്!.  ഞാനും  ഒബിസി  വിഭാഗത്തിൽ  പെട്ടവളാണെന്നും,  അഞ്ജനി ദേവി യുടെ  മകളാണ്  എന്നുമാണ്!. മണികുമാറിന്റെ മുത്തച്ഛനായ  മല്ലയ്യയോട് അഞ്ജനി ദേവി പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.  “ഞാൻ ‘മാല ‘ യാണെന്ന്”!. മണികുമാറിന്റെ  അച്ഛനായ വെങ്കിടേശ്വരലു വിനോട്  മല്ലയ്യ,  ഈ  ജന്മ ‘രഹസ്യം പങ്കുവച്ചു !. പിന്നീട്  ജാതിപ്പേരുവിളിച്ചായിരുന്നു  മദ്യപിച്ചെത്തിയ ശേഷം തൊഴി !. ജാതിപീഠനവും   സ്ത്രീ   പീഠനവും ഒന്നിച്ച്  അനുഭവിക്കാൻ  വിധിക്കപ്പെട്ട  രാധികയുടെ  ദുരന്തം  മൂത്തമകനായ രോഹിതിനെ  എത്രമാത്രം  സ്വാധിനിച്ചു ,അരക്ഷിത ബോധം  സന്നിവേശിപ്പിച്ചു !, എന്നത്  ഊഹിക്കാം !.  രോഹിതിനെ  ‘ബാബാജി’  എന്ന  ഓമനപ്പേര്  എന്തുകൊണ്ട്  അമ്മ  രാധിക  വിളിച്ചു !, എന്നറിയാൻ  ബാബാസാഹിബ്  ആരാണ്  എന്നറിയണം !. മണികുമാറിനെ പണം  കൊടുത്ത് കൈയ്യിലെടുത്താണ് ‘രോഹിത്  ഒബിസി  ആണ് ‘ എന്ന  വാദവുമായി  സംഘപരിവാർ  ശക്തികൾ  എത്തുന്നത്!. രാധിക  വെമുലയുടെ  വാക്കുകൾ  നിങ്ങൾ വിശ്വസിക്കണമെന്നില്ല!.  ഇത്  ‘പോസ്റ്റ്  ട്രൂത്ത്'(udayippu)  കാലമാണല്ലോ?.  മണികുമാറിന്റെ  അച്ഛന്റെ  വക്കുകൾ  ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാം!. 

 Venkateshwarlu lives here with his wife Raghavamma and son Manikumar, 43. His other sons, Mallikarjuna Rao and Ravi Kumar, live in Hyderabad.

“My son Manikumar did not look after his wife Radhika and their children (Neelima, Rohith and Raja). He turned alcoholic and squandered away his share of the wealth. He would not take care of the rice mill or the few assets that he got as share of the family property,’’

says, Venkateshwarlu. In 1985, Venkateshwarlu’s father Vemula Mallaiah arranged Manikumar’s marriage with Radhika,  the daughter of a state government employee and school teacher living in Guntur town. So that’s how “city girl” Radhika, about 14 years old and who had studied till her Class 10, ended up marrying a school dropout from Gurazala. Less than five years later, it was clear the marriage was failing. Not only did Manikumar drink heavily, he suffered from violent bouts of schizophrenia. The daily arguments in the Vemula family over Manikumar’s drinking habits and his verbal and physical abuse soon became a public spectacle in the Vaddera colony.

Desperate to get out of the situation, in 1993, Radhika decided to take her three children and go back to her parents in Guntur. In 1995, Manikumar, who would travel to Guntur to see his family almost every other day, convinced Radhika to return to the village.

“They came back and the three children were enrolled in the village government school. Rohith must have been nine or 10 then. But in 1998, when the beatings and the arguments got worse, Radhika went back to her home in Guntur,’’: Venkateshwarlu.

He says Manikumar kept going back to his wife and children and even tried finding a job in Guntur. “He got a few jobs but would be thrown out within a day or two because he used to borrow money and get drunk on duty. The last job he did was of a security guard, but that didn’t last either. When Rohith died, I went to Guntur and brought Manikumar back home,” says Venkateshwarlu.

“I was shocked when Rohith committed suicide and I was even more shocked when it was claimed that he was a Dalit. We still don’t believe Radhika belongs to a Scheduled Caste (SC). If we had known, we would not have allowed the marriage in the first place. My son says even he did not know about Radhika’s caste until Rohith’s suicide. I swear,’’, he says.

After Radhika left Gurazala, she first moved in with her parents, Basnala Muslaiah and Anjani Devi, to their home in Prakash Nagar and later shifted to another house in the same colony. Prakash Nagar, which stands parallel to the railway line near Railpet in Guntur district, was once a red-light area but now the trade is confined to a few houses in the first row. Inside the colony is a residential area where hundreds of families from lower-income groups live in two-room tenements.

It was in one of these tenements that Radhika and her children lived, between 1998 and 2005. Though Radhika later moved to a house in Savitri Nagar and then to Hyderabad in 2013, almost everybody in Prakash Nagar knows her and her children.

“Ask anyone, they will tell you about Radhika. She is a hardworking woman, a good tailor and does embroidery too,” says Uppalapati Danamma, in her 60s, who was municipal councillor from Prakash Nagar ward from 2000 to 2010.

Danamma, who lives a few houses away from Radhika’s parents, says there is a “lot more” she knows about the family. “Radhika wasn’t their biological child. The couple have four children — two sons and two daughters — and they had adopted her when she was a year old,” says Danamma, adding that Radhika was ill-treated by her mother Anjani and was made to work like a servant.

“Of course, it was much later that we came to know that Radhika was their adopted child. Anjani often abused her, making frequent references to her Mala (SC) caste. I think Radhika was 14 or 15 when Anjani once wondered aloud why she had even brought ‘this useless Mala girl home’,” says Danamma.

So who are Radhika’s biological parents? “No one knows. Only Anjani Devi can tell,” says Danamma. “Yes, I adopted Radhika. That was some 45 years ago. Her parents were labourers who had been brought in for some work on the railway line. Radhika was their second child. Her parents had named her Bodduamma. She was fair and cute and would crawl all over the place… she was probably just over one-year-old then. The family was very poor, they toiled all day in the sun, leaving Radhika under a tree. I had just lost my baby, a girl born after two sons. I was distraught. My heart went out to this baby. Even without asking them, I knew they were from the SC Mala community since most migrant labourers belonged to that caste. Anyway, I later confirmed with them. When Radhika’s parents were moving out of the site after their work, I asked them if I could adopt the baby. They readily agreed. I brought her home and named her Radhika.”

“After we adopted Radhika, I gave birth to two girls. Radhika was the fairest of my daughters and I raised her with a lot of affection. Who is saying that I mistreated her and made her do all the household work? She did household work but so did my two other daughters. I have taught all my daughters everything, from cleaning the house to tailoring. What is wrong in working in your own home? I gave sewing machines as gifts to my three daughters when they got married. That is what helped Radhika the most,’’

she says.Anjani Devi says her relationship with Radhika changed five years after her marriage, and worsened when Radhika decided to take up her caste as SC-Mala. “I had raised Radhika as a Vaddera and got her married to a Vaddera boy who came from an affluent family. The boy’s grandfather is very well known in Gurazala as a philanthrophist. We didn’t hide the truth about Radhika’s adoption and told him that she was from an SC family but raised as a Vaddera. He had no objection. Unfortunately, Radhika’s husband Manikumar turned out to be a drunkard,’’ she says.Anjani admits she knew the bridegroom was an alcoholic. “We were informed by some people, but by that time we had made all the arrangements for the wedding,’’ she says. “When she could not bear Manikumar’s harassment, we asked her to return home with her three children. Since her husband would frequently keep dropping in and we didn’t have space for all of them, Radhika moved to a one-room house nearby.”Anjani Devi says the lane Radhika moved into was an “SC colony” and that it’s there that she took on her SC identity. “The children had just started going to school. I do not know when and from where she got this idea but she got SC certificates for herself and for the children, mentioning them as Mala. She should not have done that. For me, she is a Vaddera. Rohith and Raja did not need SC certificates at all. Rohith was brilliant and so is Raja. It is only after Rohith’s suicide that we came to know that the caste issue was being raked up,’’ she says.Even after Radhika and her three children started living separately, she would be called to help at Anjani’s household. By then, Anjani’s two daughters had moved out after marriage. Radhika also cooked and cleaned at the daycare centre for the aged which Anjani Devi ran out of her home, where at least 20 people are given free lunch.”

നിങ്ങള്‍ ഈ കത്ത് വായിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ ഞാന്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ക്കൊപ്പം ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കില്ല!. എന്നോട് ദേഷ്യം തോന്നരുത്. നിങ്ങളില്‍ ചിലര്‍ എന്നെ   ശരിക്കും ശ്രദ്ധിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെന്നും, ഒരുപാട് ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ടെന്നും, എനിക്കറിയാം. ആരോടും എനിക്ക് പരാതിയില്ല. എല്ലാം എന്റെ കുറ്റവും പ്രശ്‌നങ്ങളുമാണ്. എന്റെ ആത്മാവും ശരീരവും തമ്മിലുള്ള അന്തരം  വർദ്ധിക്കുന്നതായി എനിക്കു തോന്നിത്തുടങ്ങിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഞാനൊരു ഭീകരരൂപിയായി മാറിയിരിക്കുന്നു!. ഞാന്‍ ഒരു എഴുത്തുകാരനാകാന്‍ ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു; കാള്‍ സാഗനെ പോലെ ഒരു ശാസ്ത്രലേഖകന്‍… എന്നാല്‍ അവസാനം, ഈ കത്തെഴുതാന്‍ മാത്രമേ എനിക്ക് കഴിഞ്ഞുള്ളു!…

ഞാന്‍ ശാസ്ത്രത്തെയും,നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളെയും, പ്രകൃതിയെയും സ്‌നേഹിച്ചു.  പ്രകൃതിയില്‍ നിന്നും അകന്ന മനുഷ്യനെ!,   അതറിയാതെ  ഞാൻ  സ്‌നേഹിച്ചു!. ഞങ്ങളുടെ വികാരങ്ങള്‍ രണ്ടാംതരം മാത്രമാണ്. ഞങ്ങളുടെ സ്‌നേഹം നിര്‍മ്മിതമാണ്. ഞങ്ങളുടെ വിശ്വാസങ്ങള്‍ നിറംപിടിക്കപ്പെട്ടതാണ്!. കൃത്രിമ കലകളിലൂടെയാണ് ഞങ്ങളുടെ മൗലികത സാധുവായിത്തീരുന്നത്.  വ്രണപ്പെടാതെ സ്‌നേഹിക്കുകയെന്നത് തീര്‍ത്തും ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുള്ളകാര്യമായി മാറിയിരിക്കുകയാണ്!.

പുറമേ കാണുന്ന സ്വത്വത്തിലും ഏറ്റവുമടുത്ത സാധ്യതകളിലുമൊതുക്കി ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്റെ മൂല്യം ചുരുക്കുകയാണ്; ഒരു വോട്ടിലേക്ക്, ഒരു അക്കത്തിലേയ്ക്ക്, അല്ലെങ്കില്‍, ഒരു വസ്തുവിലേക്ക്‌. എന്നാല്‍ ഒരു മനുഷ്യനെ ഒരു മനസ്സെന്ന നിലയില്‍ ഒരിക്കലും പരിഗണിക്കുന്നേയില്ല.

നക്ഷത്രധൂളികളില്‍ നിന്നാണ് മഹത്തായ ഏതൊരു വസ്തുവും നിര്‍മ്മിക്കപ്പെടുന്നത്; പഠനങ്ങളിലും, തെരുവുകളിലും രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിലും, ചേതനവും അചേതനവുമായ എല്ലാ മേഖലയിലും. ഒരു പക്ഷേ എല്ലായ്‌പ്പോഴും ഈ ലോകത്തെ മനസിലാക്കിയതില്‍ എനിക്കു തെറ്റുപറ്റിയതായിരിക്കാം!… സ്‌നേഹവും വേദനയും ജീവിതവും മരണവും മനസിലാക്കുന്നതില്‍!. യാതൊരു അത്യാവശ്യവുമില്ല; എന്നിട്ടും ഞാന്‍ എല്ലായ്‌പ്പോഴും തിക്കിത്തിരക്കികൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയാണ്. ഒരു ജീവിതം തുടങ്ങാന്‍പോലും നിരാശ. ചിലയാളുകളെ സംബന്ധിച്ച് എല്ലായ്‌പ്പോഴും ജീവിതം എന്നതുതന്നെ ഒരു ശാപമാണ്. എന്റെ ജനനം തന്നെയാണ് എനിക്ക് സംഭവിച്ച ഏറ്റവും വലിയ അപകടം. എന്റെ കുട്ടിക്കാല ഏകാന്തതയില്‍ നിന്നും മോചനം നേടാന്‍ എനിക്കു കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. ഭൂതകാലത്ത് അംഗീകരിക്കപ്പെടാതിരുന്ന ഒരു കുട്ടിമാത്രമാണ് ഞാന്‍!.

ഈ നിമിഷം എനിക്ക് വേദന തോന്നുന്നില്ല. ഞാന്‍ ദു:ഖിതനുമല്ല. ഞാന്‍ വെറും ശൂന്യമാണ്. എന്നെക്കുറിച്ച് പോലും ഉത്കണ്ഠയില്ല. അത്തരമൊരവസ്ഥ ദയനീയമാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഞാനിത് ചെയ്യുന്നത്.

ആളുകള്‍ ചിലപ്പോള്‍ എന്നെ ഒരു ഭീരുവോ, സ്വാര്‍ത്ഥനോ അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ ഒരു വിഡ്ഢിയോ, ആയി കരുതിയേക്കാം. എന്നെ എന്തു വിളിക്കുന്നു എന്നതിനെ കുറിച്ച് ഞാന്‍ ആലോചിക്കുന്നില്ല. മരണാനന്തര കഥകളിലും പ്രേതങ്ങളിലും ആത്മാവിലും ഞാന്‍ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നുമില്ല. ഞാന്‍ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന എന്തെങ്കിലും ഉണ്ടെങ്കില്‍, ഞാന്‍ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു!. എനിക്ക് നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളിലേക്ക് സഞ്ചരിക്കാനാകുമെന്ന്, മറ്റു ലോകങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ച് അറിയാന്‍ സാധിക്കുമെന്ന്.ഈ കത്ത് വായിക്കുന്ന നിങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് എനിക്ക് വേണ്ടി എന്തെങ്കിലും ചെയ്യാന്‍ സാധിക്കുമെങ്കില്‍, എഴുമാസത്തെ ഫെലോഷിപ്പ് ആയി എനിക്ക് ഒരുലക്ഷത്തി എഴുപത്തയ്യായിരം രൂപ ലഭിക്കാനുണ്ട്. അത് എന്റെ കുടുംബത്തിന് അത് ലഭിച്ചോ?.  എന്ന് നോക്കണം. രാംജിയ്ക്ക് നാല്പതിനായിരം രൂപ കൊടുക്കാനുണ്ട്. അദ്ദേഹം ഒരിക്കലും അത് തിരികെ ചോദിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. ആ കാശില്‍ നിന്നും അദ്ദേഹത്തിനുള്ളത് കൊടുക്കണം.

എന്റെ സംസ്‌കാര ചടങ്ങുകള്‍ നിശബ്ദവും ലളിതവും ആകട്ടെ. ഞാന്‍ പെട്ടെന്ന് വന്നു പോയി എന്ന് മാത്രം കരുതുക. എനിക്ക് വേണ്ടി കണ്ണീര്‍ പൊഴിക്കരുത്. ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതിനേക്കാള്‍ മരണത്തിലാണ് ഞാന്‍ സന്തോഷവാനായിരിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് അറിയുക!.

എല്ലാ ഔപചാരികതകളും മറന്നാണ് ഈ കത്തെഴുതുന്നത്. എന്റെ ആത്മഹത്യയ്ക്ക് ആരും ഉത്തരവാദിയല്ല. വാക്കുകൊണ്ടും പ്രവൃത്തിക്കൊണ്ടും ആരും എന്റെ ഈ ചെയ്തിക്കു കാരണമായിട്ടില്ല!. ഇത് എന്റെ തീരുമാനമാണ്. അതിന് ഏക ഉത്തരവാദി ഞാന്‍ മാത്രമാണ്. ഞാന്‍ പോയിക്കഴിഞ്ഞാല്‍ ഇതിന്റെ പേരില്‍ എന്റെ സുഹൃത്തുക്കളെയും ശത്രുക്കളെയും ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടിക്കരുത്!.

എന്റെ ജനനം തന്നെയാണ് എനിക്ക് സംഭവിച്ച ഏറ്റവും വലിയ അപകടം. എന്റെ കുട്ടിക്കാല ഏകാന്തതയില്‍ നിന്നും മോചനം നേടാന്‍ എനിക്കു കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. ഭൂതകാലത്ത് അംഗീകരിക്കപ്പെടാതിരുന്ന ഒരു കുട്ടിമാത്രമാണ് ഞാന്‍. :രോഹിത്  വെമുല

രോഹിതിന്റെ  വാക്കുകൾ  കണ്ണുനീരോടെ  മാത്രമേ  നമുക്ക്  വായിക്കാനാവുകയുള്ളു  പക്ഷേ  ഞാൻ  വിയോജിക്കുന്നു രോഹിത്! നീ  മരിക്കരുതായിരുന്നു ! പോരാടണമായിരുന്നു ! നീപറയുന്നതിലും  ശരിയുണ്ട് ! ദളിത ആദിവാസി മുന്നേറ്റത്തിനാവശ്യമായ  സാമൂഹിക  ചിന്തയും ! ദാർശനിക  ദിശാബോധവും  ഇനിയും  പ്രായോഗിക  തലത്തിൽ  വളരെയേറെ  മുന്നേറേണ്ടതായുണ്ട് ! മഹാനായ അയ്യൻകാളിയും, ബാബാസാഹിബ്  ഡോ .അംബേദ്കറും, ശ്രീനാരായണ ഗുരുവും , പൊയ്കയിൽ  അപ്പച്ചനുമൊക്കെ  തെളിച്ചവഴിയിൽ  ബഹുദൂരം  ഇനി മുന്നേറേണ്ടതുണ്ട് !

അതെന്താണങ്ങനെ ?. സ്വാഭാവികമായ  സംശയമാണ് ! എന്തുകൊണ്ട്  ഇത്രയും അപഹാസ്യമായ  ജാതിവ്യവസ്ഥ?!.   ഇത്രയും  അധികം  കാലം  ഇവിടെ നിലനിന്നു?!. ഇപ്പോഴും  തുടരുന്നു ! ഇതറിയാൻ  ജാതിവ്യവസ്ഥയുടെ അടിവേരുകൾ  അറിയണം !. ഏതാണ്ട്  ഇരുപതിനായിരം  വർഷങ്ങൾ  മുൻപ് ,  സംസാര ഭാഷ, കന്നുകാലി വളർത്തൽ , മൺപാത്ര നിർമ്മാണം  ഇവയിൽ തുടങ്ങി , കലപ്പയുടെ കണ്ടുപിടുത്തത്തോടെ  പുതിയ  കൃഷിസ്ഥലങ്ങൾ  തിരക്കിയുള്ള  യാത്രയിൽ ,ഗോത്രകലഹങ്ങളുടെ  തീച്ചൂളകളിൽ പെട്ട്  പലായനങ്ങളുടെ,  അധിനിവേശങ്ങളുടെ ,വംശഹത്യകളുടെ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ പുതിയ  അദ്ധ്യായങ്ങൾ രചിക്കപ്പെട്ടു!.

ജാതിവ്യവസ്ഥയുടെ വേരുകളാവട്ടെ ; കലപ്പയുടെ പ്രചാരത്തോടെ കൃഷിയുടെ വ്യാപനവും അയി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട്; കാലാവസ്ഥാ മാറ്റങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടികയും,  കാലഗണനാ സംമ്പ്രദായങ്ങളും വിത്തിടുന്നത് മുതൽ വിളവെടുക്കുന്നതുവരെയുള്ള പുതിയ ചിട്ടവട്ടങ്ങളുമായി എത്തിയവർ, സൂര്യ-ചന്ദ്രന്മാരുടെ ഉദയ-അസ്തമനങ്ങളും, കാലാവസ്ഥാ മാറ്റങ്ങളും പ്രകൃതിയുടെ എല്ലാ പ്രതിഭാസങ്ങളും തങ്ങളുടെ യാഗങ്ങളിലും ശ്ലോകങ്ങളിലും ആണ് നിയന്ത്രിക്കപ്പെടുന്നതെന്നും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ‘മൊബൈൽ നംബർ’ പൂണൂൽ ധരിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൈയ്യിൽ ആണെന്നുമാണ് പരക്കെ ധരിപ്പിച്ചത് അതിലവർ വിജയിക്കുകതന്നെ ചെയ്തു. ഇന്നും ബ്രാഹ്മണൻ ഒഴികെ  മറ്റാർക്കും പൂജ  ചെയ്യാൻ അനുവാദമില്ലെങ്കിൽ അവിടെ മറ്റുള്ളവർ പോകരുത്!. അതിന് സർക്കാരിന്റെയോ മറ്റാരുടെയെങ്കിലുമോ  സമ്മതം ആവശ്യമില്ല. കാലാവസ്ഥ നിർണയം കാലഗണന, മുതലായവ അനിവാര്യമായതോടൊപ്പം, കൃഷിനാശം,പ്രകൃതി ക്ഷോഭം, പകർച്ചവ്യാധികൾ   ഇവയൊക്കെ    സമൂഹത്തിനു  നിരന്തരം  ഭീഷണിതന്നെയായിരുന്നു !, സൂര്യഗ്രഹണവും,ചന്ദ്രഗ്രഹണവും ,വിത്തിറക്കാനും വിളവെടുക്കാനും ,പറ്റിയസമയം , ഏറക്കുറെ എങ്കിലും  കൃത്യമായി  പറയാനാവുന്നവർക്കു  ദിവ്യത്വം  കൊടുത്തത് , സ്വാഭാവികമായ  അറിവില്ലാഴ്മ !.  അമ്പും  വില്ലും  ഉപയോഗിച്ച്  അകലെനിന്നും,  ഒളിച്ചുനിന്നും  ശത്രുനിഗ്രഹം  വരുത്താനുള്ള  വിദ്യയിൽ  കൂടുതൽ  പ്രാവീണ്യമുള്ളവർ  വേട്ടക്കാരും  എതിർത്തവർ  ഇരകളുമായി !  കാർഷിക വൃത്തിയുമായി  ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട  ‘ഫെർട്ടിലിറ്റി  കൾട്ടുകൾ ‘, ഭൂമിയുടെ  ഊർവ്വരതയുമായി  ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട  അനുഷ്ടാനങ്ങൾ !. ഗോത്ര  ദുരാചാരങ്ങൾ, മാജിക്കുകൾ  ഇവ  എല്ലാ  സമൂഹങ്ങളിലും  ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു !. കൃഷി സംമ്പ്രദായത്തെ എതിർത്തവരാണ് ‘നായാടികൾ ‘. എവിടെയും  ഉള്ള കായ്കനികൾ അവർ പെറുക്കി -വളർത്തു മൃഗങ്ങളെ വേട്ടയാടി ! (Hunter gatherer!); നമ്മുടെ പൂർവികർ തന്നെ!, പകൽ വെളിച്ചത്തിൽ കണ്ടാലുടനെ തട്ടിക്കളയാനാണ്  തിട്ടുരമിട്ടത്!; പുലത്തിനധിപരും, കൃഷിസ്ഥലം ഒരുക്കിയവരും, ഒരു വലിയ വിഭാഗം, പുതിയ തമ്പ്രാക്കളോടൊപ്പം ആയിരുന്നു. എതിർത്തവർ നാടുവിടുകയോ ക്രൂരമായി കൊല്ലപ്പെടുകയോ ആണ് ഉണ്ടായത്. പിന്നീടാണ് ജാതിവ്യവസ്ഥയുടെ -വർണ്ണാശ്രമ ധർമ്മങ്ങളുടെ, അരിയിട്ടുവാഴ്ച! ഇപ്പോൾ പറയാൻ കാരണമുണ്ട്, ///**വിഭീഷണ-സുഗ്രീവ കഥകളുടെ അടിസ്ഥാനം പോലെ തന്നെ!  അധ:സ്ഥിതരാക്കുകയും   അപമാനിതരാക്കുകയും ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടവരിൽ അഞ്ചാം പത്തികളും ധാരാളം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. *****//// അതാണല്ലോ അതിന്റെ സ്വാഭാവിക നീതി!, ചാണക്യ തന്ത്രം അവരെന്നും പ്രയോഗിച്ചിരുന്നു . കൃഷി ചെയ്യാൻ, നിലം ഒരുക്കാൻ ,വിത്തിടാൻ, പരിചരിക്കാൻ ,വിളവെടുക്കാൻ ഇതിനൊക്കെ ആളുവേണമല്ലോ?.

കുട്ടനാട്ടുകാരനായ  എന്റെനാട്ടിലെ സ്ഥലപ്പേരുകൾ , ചാത്തങ്കേരി ,കുമരംകേരി  ചങ്ങങ്കേരി ,പണ്ടങ്കേരി ,മിത്രക്കേരി  എന്നൊക്കെയായതും,  ബുദ്ധമത  ബന്ധമുള്ള  സ്ഥാലനാമങ്ങളും, നൂറുനൂറു  നാമരൂപങ്ങളും  നമ്മളെ പലതും  പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നു ! ചിലർ  പഠിച്ചില്ലന്നു  നടിക്കുന്നു !

അതറിഞ്ഞു വേണ്ടതു ചെയ്തു!,  എന്നതാണ്   മഹാനായ അയ്യങ്കാളിയുടെ മഹത്വം. വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ അവകാശത്തിനു വേണ്ടി!,  മനുഷ്യനായി  പരിഗണിക്കാൻ  ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട്,  കഴിഞ്ഞ  നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ  ആരംഭ ദശകത്തിൽ  കാർഷിക -പണിമുടക്കിന് ആഹ്വാനം ചെയ്ത്, നേടിയെടുത്ത അവകാശങ്ങളെ  നന്ദിയോടെ  സ്മരിക്കാൻ  നമുക്ക്  മാനവിക  കൂട്ടായ്മ  ഒരുക്കാം !.

ജാതിവ്യവസ്ഥ, ‘കപട -ദേശീയത’ മുതലായ ‘രാജകീയ കള്ളങ്ങളുടെ’ ശാസ്ത്രം അറിയാൻ അവയുടെ ചരിത്രം തിരിച്ചറിയാൻ -പ്ലേറ്റോ യുടെ ‘റിപ്പുബ്ലിക് ; മുന്നാം അദ്ധ്യായം, വായിക്കുന്നത് നല്ലതാണ്;(Plato -The philosopher king of Greece 428-328 BC) ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പരിഭാഷ ‘noble lie’ എന്നുതന്നെയാണ് വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. ‘ജനാധിപത്യത്തിന്റെ കളിത്തൊട്ടിൽ’ എന്നു വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കുന്ന പെരിക്ലിസ്സിന്റെ കാലത്തിനു ശേഷം അരങ്ങേറിയ അരാജകത്വത്തിനു മറുമരുന്നായാണ് പ്ലറ്റൊ ‘രാജകീയ കള്ളം’ വളരെ വളരെ മടിച്ച്, മടിച്ച് ആണെങ്കിലും  അവതരിപ്പിച്ചത് . ചുരുക്കം ഇതാണ്;

“ഭൂമി നമ്മുടെ അമ്മയാണ് ആ അർത്ഥത്തിൽ എല്ലാ മനുഷ്യരും സഹോദരങ്ങൾ തന്നെയാണ് -എന്നാൽ ചിലരുടെ ആത്മാവിൽ ദൈവം സ്വർണ്ണം ചേർത്തു!, അവരാണ് പൂജാരികളും ഭരണകർത്താക്കളും , ചിലരുടെ ആത്മാവിൽ -വെള്ളി ചേർത്തു, അവരാണ് യോദ്ധാക്കൾ , ഇനിയും ചിലരുടെ ആത്മാവിൽ ഇരുമ്പും, പിച്ചളയും ആണ് ചേർത്തത്!. അവരാണ് സാധാരണക്കാരും കരകൌശലക്കാരും “( Husband men and craftsmen is the English translation. Ref; Republic vol: III page 584 in ‘Great works of Plato) റിപ്പബ്ളിക്കിന്റെ രചനയിലുമുണ്ട് ‘രാജകീയകള്ളം’  സോക്രട്ടീസ് – ഗ്ലൌകോണ്‍ സംഭാഷണം ആയാണ്, പ്ലറ്റൊ രാജകീയ കള്ളങ്ങൾ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്‌ !,  ഇതു ജനം വിശ്വസിക്കുമോ?, എന്ന് ഗ്ലൌകോണിനു സംശയം .

“മുന്നു തലമുറ ആവർത്തിച്ചാൽ വിശ്വസിച്ചുകൊള്ളും”,  എന്നാണ് മറുപടി .ഇതുപോലെ ഫോനീഷ്യൻ കഥകൾ ഉണ്ടെന്നും,  ലോകത്ത് പലസ്ഥലത്തും ഇത്തരം കള്ളങ്ങൾ പ്രചാരത്തിലുണ്ടെ ന്നുമാണ്, സോക്രട്ടീസിനെ കൊണ്ട് ആമുഖമായി പറയിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് !.

ഈ ‘പലസ്ഥലം’  ഏതെന്നു നമുക്കറിയാം  ഇവിടെത്തന്നെ! പ്ലറ്റൊയ്ക്ക് അതറിയാൻ വകുപ്പുമുണ്ട്  (~ B.C.E 320) .  പ്ലേറ്റോയുടെ ‘കള്ളങ്ങൾ’,   ഗ്രീസ്സിലോ പിന്നീടു യുറോപ്പിൽ എങ്ങുമൊ  ചിലവായില്ല!.    നന്ദി പറയേണ്ടത് ആദിമ ക്രൈസ്തവ സഭയോടാണ്!. മാത്രമല്ല പ്ലേറ്റോയുടെ ജാതിക്കൂട്ടിനു പുറത്തായിരുന്ന അടിമകളെ പോലും (അടിമകളെയും  സ്ത്രീകളെയും മനുഷ്യരായി പ്ലാറ്റോ യുടെകാലത്ത് കരുതിയിരുന്നില്ല. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ജാതിവ്യവസ്ഥയ്ക്ക് പുറത്തായിരുന്ന വലിയജനവിഭാഗത്തെ പോലെതന്നെ) മോചിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിന് ആദിമ ക്രിസ്തവസഭയ്ക്ക് കഴിഞ്ഞു,  എന്നാൽ  -കോണ്‍സ്റ്റൈന്റെയിൻ  ക്രിസ്താനിയവുകയും (Constantine  27 February c. 272 AD – 22 May 337 AD,  Saint Constantine the Great, Equal-to-the-Apostles) was a Roman Emperor from 306 to 337 AD). ‘ദൈവ ദത്തവും'(Divine right ) കേന്ദ്രീകൃതവുമായ രാജഭരണം സ്ഥാപിച്ചപ്പോൾ, അന്ധകാരയുഗങ്ങളുടെ ആരംഭം ആവുകയായിരുന്നു. മാനവ സംസ്കാരങ്ങളുടെ  ചരിത്രം മുഴുവൻ ഇത്തരം തിരിമറികളിലായിരുന്നു?!  H.G wells ,Arnold Toynbee,Louis Morgan  തുടങ്ങിയവരെല്ലാം  ഇത്തരം വൈരുദ്ധ്യങ്ങൾ  ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഫ്രഞ്ച് വിപ്ലവത്തെ പറ്റി ആധികാരികമായി പഠിച്ച  അലക്സ്‌ റ്റൗക്കുവല്ലി(Alex de Toquvelle)  പറഞ്ഞത് , അധികാര വികേന്ദ്രീകരണത്തിനുവേണ്ടി വേണ്ടി  തുടങ്ങി!, കടുത്ത കേന്ദ്രീകരണത്തിൽ  അവസാനിച്ചു എന്നാണ്!.   ഗ്രീസി ലെ  നഗരരാഷ്ട്രങ്ങൾ  തകരുകയും  റോമാസാമ്രാജ്യം  ആധിപത്യം  ഉറപ്പിക്കുകയും  ചെയ്തപ്പോൾ   യൂറോപ്പിൽ,  അടുത്ത  അദ്ധ്യായം  തുടങ്ങി!; സമൂഹത്തിൽ, അടിമകളുടെ  ജനസംഖ്യ  അറുപതുശതമാനത്തോളോം  എത്തി!.   ചുറുത്തുനിൽപ്പുകൾക്കു  പുതിയ  തലങ്ങൾ,  യൂറോപ്പിൽ  ആദിമ  ക്രൈസ്തവ  സഭ , ഭാരതത്തിൽ  ബുദ്ധ മതം, ചൈനയിൽ   മോയിസ്റ്റുകൾ , ഇവയൊക്കെ  മനവ  സംകൃതിയുടെ  തുടർക്കഥകളിൽ  നിര്ണ്ണായകമായ  സ്ഥാനം തന്നെയാണ് !. ആദിമ ക്രൈസ്റ്റവസഭ യുറോപ്പിൽ  നേടിയത്  ഭാരതത്തിൽ  നടന്നില്ല !.  ദ്രാവിഡ സമൂഹങ്ങളുടെ  അനൈക്യവും ! സുഗ്രീവ  വിഭീഷണാദികളുടെ  വഞ്ചനയും  തന്നെ കാരണം!.   ഇവിടെ  ബുദ്ധമതം  പരാജയപ്പെട്ടു ! ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ  മുഴുവൻ  തന്നേ  കവർന്നെടുക്കപ്പെട്ടു !. കൊല്ലവര്ഷാരംഭമാണ്  അതിന്റെ  അടയാളപ്പെടുത്താൽ !(A.D 825)ഒന്നാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടുമുതൽ  അഞ്ചാം  നൂറ്റാണ്ടു വരെ  റോമാസാമ്രാജ്യ ത്തിന്റെ  അതിരുകൾക്കുള്ളി ൽ നടന്നതിന്റെ  നേർ  ചിത്രം  സ്പാർട്ടക്കസിന്റെ  കഥയിൽ  കാണാം !. Post-truth, Brexit ,Trump,‘Demon-eti-zation’ and ‘Noble lies’.

After much discussion, debate, and research, Oxford Dictionaries have chosen ‘post-truth‘ ,as the Word of the Year 2016 – an adjective,  ‘relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief’. It is not just a semantic problem to ornament ‘the truth with an adjective ‘ which in fact make it an ‘oxymoron’, means the real meaning of ‘post-truth is ,’just untruth’ or plane lie .Truth can’t entertain such an oxymoron ornamentation – better word, giving the same meaning is ‘udayippu’ (ഉടായിപ്പു). I will be posting this blog to oxford dictionaries – with more details related to semantics , etymology of words etc above all coronation of ‘Post Truth’ as the word of the year 2016, is useful to demarcate an epoch having much propensity  for dishonesty,  just like the the term ‘Dark Ages’  which was coined by an Italian scholar  Francesco Petrarch.Petrarch(1304 to 1374), used this label to describe what he perceived as a lack of quality in the Latin literature of his day. – Truth find its best expression in john 8:32 of Holy Bible “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”. Post-truth is just ‘Antonym ‘ of truth ;Untruth or lie. Magnificent myth. Or ‘Noble Lies’ (γενναῖον ψεῦδος, ‘gennaion pseudos’), which has been translated from old Greek as ‘brave false’.  Just like  violence breeds more violence, lie needs more lies in an attempt to mask  the truth .  To understand ‘rationale’ behind the Utopian ‘Republic‘ one has to browse through the historical back ground prevailed during Plato’s time in Greece ![around 424- 347 BCE ] . Great Principles  of Democracy by Pericles(495-429 B.C.)and Democritus,of democratic Athens during her  golden age (Ref:’Aristotle, Politika (Politics)and Funeral Oration’ by Pericles).Few words from ‘Funeral Oration’ by Pericles the great democrat  of  Athens in  her glorious past ->

    “Our form of government does not enter into rivalry with the institutions of others. Our government does not copy our neighbors’, but is an example to them. It is true that we are called a democracy, for the administration is in the hands of the many and not of the few. But while there exists equal justice to all and alike in their private disputes, the claim of excellence is also recognized; and when a citizen is in any way distinguished, he is preferred to the public service, not as a matter of privilege, but as the reward of merit. Neither is poverty an obstacle, but a man may benefit his country whatever the obscurity of his condition. There is no exclusiveness in our public life, and in our private business we are not suspicious of one another, nor angry with our neighbor if he does what he likes; we do not put on sour looks at him which, though harmless, are not pleasant. While we are thus unconstrained in our private business, a spirit of reverence pervades our public acts; we are prevented from doing wrong by respect for the authorities and for the laws, having a particular regard to those which are ordained for the protection of the injured as well as those unwritten laws which Ping upon the transgressor of them the reprobation of the general sentiment.”

 Later this great concept of Democracy, ossified to anarchy and then, the Thirty Tyrants -trial and Magistricide of great Philosopher Socrates, recollect that Socrates was put to death by democracy!. Plato’s rhetoric and sophistry with ‘noble lies’, self appointed guardianship, advocating ‘Utopian Republic’, putting his thoughts as words of Socrates(Ref:Open .Society and its Enemies . – Karl Popper).

Great Greek tradition which produced ‘Epicureans and stoics ‘ made ‘Plato to name his ‘Utopian proposals’ as   ‘noble lies’. During the present ‘Age of Unreason ‘, plain lie is getting  ornamented  as ‘post- truth’!. Another word in my language ‘Malayalam’  is ‘udayippu’ (ഉടായിപ്പു) which can be considered as a synonym for ‘post- truth’. 

After running its course through Dark ages ,   ‘Age of reason’ enlightened the principles of liberté, égalité, fraternité,  evolved in nearly three centuries, gradually succumbed to centralization and autocracy (Ref :Alexis de Tocqueville on French revolution “started for decentralization and ended with centralization”); slipped to Laplaceian (or Cartesian) determinism   and finally to Fascism and Totalitarianism. Philosophical basis of the same has already provided by Hegel, the enlightenment counter part of Plato ‘the philosopher king’. New mutations of fascism in the name of faith and religion with nostalgic dreams of tribal past is in the making especially in Middle East and Indian subcontinent.    Indian counter part of renaissance, offered a small interlude of hopes, and expectations; We have seen and  continues to respect few ‘wise to be bold’ like Dr. C.V. Raman , Saha, Bose, Dr. Baba Sahib Ambedkar , Rebenadha Takkoor , Sharachandra , Nethaji , and good many from diverse  disciplines!. We still  remember them with gratitude and respect. Later our socio-political landscape  degraded to  misrule, politics of conspiracy ,dishonesty, ‘Noble lies’ ‘udayippu’ (ഉടായിപ്പു) and now ‘post-truth’ is filling the intellectual vacuum.    Just like ‘Wise to be bold ‘ (Sapare audi ) encapsulates the social thinking prevalent during the ‘AGE OF REASON’, POST TRUTH rightly echoes the propensity of dishonesty during this age of ‘UN-REASON’. The right ‘piece meal social engineering ‘ to promote  ‘Sapare audi’  seems to be the call of the hour , to encourage few at least, to  become   ‘wise to be bold and bold to be wise ‘ .

It is worth to quote Plato from his Republic’ advertising his ‘Noble lie ‘ which is just ‘the shameful the caste system’ that we are much familiar in India .  But ‘Manusmruthi’ introduce the same as ‘truth sacrosanct’ .

The allegory of metals is nothing less than a rationale for maintaining a caste system. Socrates(In fact Plato) suggests that if the people believed “this myth . . . [it] would have a good effect, making them more inclined to care for the state and one another” (415c–d).  Thus the Noble Lie is “a contrivance for one of those falsehoods that come into being in case of need, of which we were just now talking, some noble one.” (414b–c). 

   In Europe ‘the philosophical frames prepared by Early Christianity has resisted the ‘noble lie’!. During enlightenment, Machiavelli again appeared with another pack of noble lies and dirty politics , (Ref: The prince or example ). Machiavellianism gradually doing its dirty tricks to mask the truth ! .Consider Indian political scenario in 1946 -India’s independence was only a matter of time. Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was the president of Congress party at that time, natural choice as the first Prime Minister of independent India. Mahatmaji favoured Jawaharlal Nehru, non of the Pradesh Congress Committees(PCC) supported him, only few Congress Working committee(CWC) members favoured him. The majority support was in favour of Sardar patel and then to Acharya J B Kripalani . Coronation of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru as India’s first Prime Minister was a compromise to democracy. Mahatmaji feared ;Nehru could cause problems! if not chosen as  the  ‘super man ‘  of  Independent India,  was well aware of his relationship with Mount Batten; It marked the declining phase of Indian renaissance. It should be noted that Jawaharlal Nehru while praising ‘Chanakya’ (Kautilya/Vishnu Gupta–350–275 BCE) as the Indian- Machiavelli and commented “..bigger person in every way ,greater intelligence; humble adviser to any ruler”(Ref:’Discovery of India by Jawarlal Nehru, Page 124; Quoted words contain more meaning than given by any dictionary).  Another admirer of Machiavelli ,Former US President Ronald Reagan openly admitted:- quote  Reagan/

“It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.”

/unquote .   As you  know ‘ the first profession’ was prostitution!!.
In modern psychology, Machiavellianism just like the ‘Post truth politics’ is one of the dark triad personalities, characterised by a duplicitous interpersonal style, a cynical disregard for morality and a focus on self-interest and personal gain. Brexit, and  Donald   Trump in West, its Indian counterpart ‘demon-eti-zation’  and Modi  are just  the manifestations  of ‘Post truth politics’ . Identifying the enemies of open society is the first step towards  resisting the  attack against civility. propriety and liberal democracy.   .
